Site Header Settings
Use the site header settings to choose the layout of your site header, primarily based on whether you use a text identity or logo/lockup identity for your website. You can also control the appearance of search and an optional link to a parent site in the utility navigation.

Choosing Your Site Header Identity
Your site header layout is determined by which type of site identity is used.
The site identity is the name of a website and is linked to your site’s homepage. Your site identity will appear on the upper-left corner and can either be a:
- Logo/lockup identity: a coded Texas A&M unit identity (Texas A&M box logo next to a unit name)
- Text identity: site name written in plain text
Your site name must be the same as the text in an approved Texas A&M unit identity to use the “lockup identity” site header layout option. For example, the primary site for an official college, department, or division will be able to use their unit identity for their site name. However, if they had a separate site for a specific program hosted by that unit, the program site would need to use the “text identity” site header layout.
Site Headers Using a Lockup Identity
In the “lockup identity” site header layout variations, the site identity is a coded Texas A&M unit identity and linked to the home page of this site. A search bar will display out to the right-hand side across from the site name.
Site headers using the “lockup identity” layout can add an additional link in the utility navigation back to their parent organization behind the “back to Texas A&M University” link.
How to Configure Your Site Header Using a Lockup Identity
- Go to Appearance > Themes
- Click Customize on your active Aggie UX theme
- Open Site Header Settings panel
- Under Site Identity, choose Logo/Lockup Identity
- Enter the site name in the Unit Identity fields.
- For longer unit names, use both Unit Identity and Unit Identity — Line Two (Optional) to control where the line break is.
- For unit names that wrap to three lines, check the Expand Logo/Lockup Width checkbox.
- Optionally add a link in the utility navigation back to your parent site by checking Link to Parent Site in Utility Nav. If selected:
- Add the name of the parent organization under Parent Organization (e.g., College of Architecture)
- Add the URL for the parent organization’s home page under Parent Organization Link (https://arch.tamu.edu)
- Optionally hide search in your site header by checking Hide Search
- After making changes, click Publish
Site Headers Using a Text Identity
Use this site header layout when a website needs a clear site identity but does not have an approved Texas A&M University or unit logo that matches the site name. This header layout is commonly used for program, initiative, campaign, center, lab, event and news sites.
This layout will have one of the following out to the right-hand side across from the site name:
- An approved Texas A&M unit identity, linked to that unit’s website
- The Texas A&M University logo, linked to www.tamu.edu
In this header configuration, search displays in the utility navigation (the maroon top-most bar across the top of the site header).
Site headers using the “text identity” layout can add an additional link in the utility navigation back to their parent organization behind the “back to Texas A&M University” link.
