Specialties / Areas of Expertise
In Aggie UX, areas of expertise are a way to programmatically group people with related professional or academic specialties. Areas of expertise generate tags on profiles that can be clicked to view a filtered view of the directory that shows all people who share that expertise.

About Specialties
Aggie UX provides the ability to sort areas of expertise into two different categories: professional or academic. You can manage all of the available areas of expertise by going to Directory > Professional Specialties or Directory > Academic Specialties, respectively.
Both types of expertise will be displayed as tags in the profile page header beneath the heading “Areas of Expertise.” You can change the heading that goes over this section in the Directory Options.
| Field Name | Field Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The name of the specialty as it will appear on your site, including in tags on profiles. | Information Architecture |
| Slug | The URL-friendly version of the name that will appear as part of the URL for the professional specialties archive page. This should be all lowercase and contain only letters, numbers and hyphens. | information-architecture |
| Description | Optionally add a description of the professional specialty. This will appear in the page header on the automatically generated professional specialty archive page. | Information architecture (IA) is the practice of organizing, structuring, and labeling content on websites, mobile apps, and other software environments to optimize usability and findability. |
Specialties Archive Pages
All specialties automatically generate an archive page that lists specialty’s name and description (if filled out) above a filtered view of the directory to only include profiles that have been associated with that specialty.
You can further customize each specialty’s archive page by setting a featured image to display in the page header. You can also set an image to show as a preview image when sharing links on social media and other platforms, called a social share image.
