Roles
Roles can be used to filter profiles in your directory.

About Roles
Roles are a flexible taxonomy that allows you to create directory filters that will populate all profiles that are associated with a given role. A common use case is classifying people as faculty or staff. With the roles taxonomy, you can create as many roles as make sense for your site.
Learn how to enable filters on your directory on the Directory Options page.
Role Options
You can manage all available roles in Directory > Roles.
| Field Name | Field Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The name of the role as it will appear on your site, including as potential dropdown items in a filter. | Faculty |
| Slug | The URL-friendly version of the name that will appear as part of the URL for the professional specialties archive page. This should be all lowercase and contain only letters, numbers and hyphens. | faculty |
| Description | Optionally add a description of the role. This has the potential to appear in the page header on an automatically generated role archive page, should we enable that functionality in the future. | Faculty members are responsible for instruction and/or research. |
Tip: Use Roles with Directory Groups
Roles can be especially useful for complex directories with dozens of people. You could enable a filter for Roles and a filter for Directory Groups, enabling a prefiltered view of a directory. For example, you could link to a directory prefiltered to show all faculty in a specific department.
Relating Job Titles to Roles
Each job title can optionally be related to a role.
To relate a title to a role, choose an existing option from the Role dropdown immediately below the relevant Job Title, or add a new role.
