About Directory Groups

Directory groups are a flexible taxonomy that allows you to create filters and archive pages that will populate all profiles that are associated with a given directory group.

Learn how to enable filters on your directory on the Directory Options page.

Directory groups can be whatever makes sense for your site. For example, directory groups can be used to group people who are on the same team, in the same department, or any other grouping that makes sense for your organization.

You can associate each person with multiple directory groups.

Directory Group (singular)

A directory group is a grouping of related people. At a minimum, it must have a title. An archive page will automatically be created that lists all people associated with the respective directory group.

Managing a Directory Group Options

Options to manage directory groups are found beneath Directory Groups in the WP Admin left sidebar.

View all existing directory groups in Directory Groups > All Directory Groups.

How to add a new directory group

  1. Go to Directory Groups > Add New Directory Group
  2. Fill out the desired name of the group in the Add Title field
  3. Optionally set a Group Type to further organize your profiles
  4. Optionally add more information to the archive page
  5. Click Save Draft to save your progress or click Publish to publish your changes to your site

Directory Group Archive Pages

All directory groups automatically create an archive page that contains contact cards for each person whose profile has been associated with the given directory group.

You can make a few edits to the directory group archive pages, including:

  • Page title: This will display as the directory group name, both on the archive page and in directory filters.
  • Page intro: Add a paragraph to the page header by filling out the excerpt. This will also display on the directory groups archive page.
  • Featured image: Associate an image with the directory group by setting a featured image. This image will appear on the directory groups archive page.
  • On-page content: You can add blocks to the archive page the same way you would on a regular page. All blocks added to the archive pages will appear above the automatically generated contact card collection that pulls in all people who have been associated with the given directory group.

See all Directory Groups on the Directory Groups Archive Page

The directory groups archive page lists all directory groups created on your site and links to their respective individual directory group archive pages.
