Images and Accessibility
All images on your website must have text alternatives (commonly called “alt text”) for accessibility purposes. Because of this, we require entering an image description when uploading image files; this will automatically be used as the image’s alt text wherever it appears on your website.

Uploading an Image
- Open the _files > _images folder in the preview pane
- Note: We recommend storing all images for your site in the _images folder. You can opt to organize photos with additional folders in this folder to help you find images on sites that have a large amount of imagery.
- Click Add Content in the upper left corner of the Cascade navigation bar
- Click Images and Files > Image with alt text
- Fill out the required information:
- File Name: The file name must contain no spaces, special characters or capital letters.
- Description: This will appear as the image’s alt text throughout the website.
- Upload your image file by dragging and dropping it into the file selection area or clicking choose to find the file on your computer.
- Click Preview Draft
- Click Submit
- Enter version comments that will be saved in the asset’s version history.
- Click Submit
Updating an Existing Image
Sometimes you may need to make changes to an image after you see how it looks in a component. If you do this, we recommend updating the image you already uploaded as a new version of the existing image instead of creating a new Image with alt text from the Add Content menu. This can help reduce the number of images uploaded to your site, making it easier to find specific images.
How to Update an Existing Image
- Open the image you want to replace in the preview pane
- Click Edit
- Upload the new image file by dragging and dropping it into the file selection area or clicking choose to find the file on your computer.
- Click Preview Draft
- Click Submit
- Enter version comments that will be saved in the asset’s version history.
