Directories and profiles work together to provide space for individual contact information for all of the people in a given organization. Directories cannot exist without profiles.

Profiles

Profiles are a special page type dedicated pages with contact information for a specific person.

Profiles, at a minimum, should include contact information, such as that found on directory.tamu.edu. You can opt to include additional information, such as biographical information, education, publications, awards and honors.

At a minimum, a profile page should include a profile page header with contact information. It is also possible to add components beneath the page header to add more information and make your profile more visually interesting.

Directories

A directory is a list of all of the people in a given organization, where each person has a directory listing linked to their individual profile. Directories can be filtered and searched.

A directory can be easily confused with a contact card collection. Use these rules of thumb to remember the difference between each:

  • Directories are automatically generated based on the existence of profiles. They can have multiple pages navigable by pagination, filters, and search bars.
  • Contact card collections are manually curated, static content.
